i wrote about this somewhere in replies to mary, but i want to somewhat reiterate on why i enjoy telegram as a social platform so much... not having a single timeline and instead having personal channels is actually really nice in many regards: - there's a global limit on channels (which is also shared with chats), so subscribing to someone on tg means much more than subscribing to someone on fedi/twi/etc, since you are giving that person 1/100th (iirc?) of your time basically - replies to others are not visible in the channel (as long as it's not a cross-chat reply, similar to a renote). this is honestly so huge, seeing people i follow in random discussions on timeline makes me want to check them out and distracts so much - message format somewhat promotes conciseness and less frequent and more thoughtful posting. dgmw, shitpost channels with >100-200 posts/day 100% exist and have their niche, but its a much less frequent occurrence - channels can have multiple admins. joint channels with s/o or friend group or anyone really. with post signatures, too. its a very unique experience, idk why and i cant really explain it, but again it feels much more personal and real... - and once again, effortlessly catching up exactly where you dropped off, in your own pace "personal" and "real" are things that i miss the most probably. on fedi/twi/etc i often not fully realize that other people on here are actual living breathing people. and it often dazzles me when someone interacts back. and on tg i get that much more rarely. idk why.
