[email protected] i always thought that was a vanilla misskey feature. and tbh, i really like it. imo, it's actually prioritizing interoperability and consistency.
i have ❤️ set as default reaction on my instance, and whenever i send it, i 100% expect it to be federated as a ❤️ to everyone involved. regardless of the software. just like in discord/telegram, i don't expect it to randomly turn into ⭐.
"default reaction" imo is just a shortcut, it shouldn't be treated as some special case. and falling back to simple likes/faves should **only** be done in the case where the reactions are straight up unsupported (e.g., on vanilla mastodon).
i agree that software sniffing sucks, but i think it's more due to the fact that activitypub itself sucks, so everyone implements inter-incompatible garbage 🤷♀️
