@[email protected] > JavaScript tools ditch code as a configuration format wait what? which ones?
@[email protected] im not sure if screenshots would even do much. they show basically nothing in regards to *your* skills, layouts are made by a designer anyway. and yeah if its not some publicly available service then nda may very well include it.
CW: rant, mh-ish
it feels so weird seeing how common is the practice of using a script for any kind of public performance. literally everyone is using a teleprompter or just straight up paper. in my school days, every time i did that i was constantly shamed by teachers for not "using my own words" (???, i wrote the script lol). which made me kinda believe that scripts are a bad thing in general and should be avoided and coming out into the real world it just feels so weird when everyone is so blatantly reading the script out loud - be it a youtuber, a politician, a business presentation, etc. and everyone is seemingly ok with that! nobody shames them for reading a script and not exactly performing "live" and here i am once again, rehearsing my script to the point where i could wake up in the middle of the night and give a proper presentation, because "what if i forget whats next?? i cant just look at the script". except i can. the last time i performed i literally had the script in front of me, yet i didn't look at it once, being too anxious that someone will notice i stuttered... school sucks
@[email protected] on mac theyre in the settings... though the last time i touched arc some of the most important ones (like exit) were half-broken and ignored the setting :neocat_woozy:
@[email protected] afaiu they were c&d-ed primarily because the devs made money on their patreon by selling private builds, or something along those lines and it wasn't even c&d-ed, it was a pre-trial proceeding i believe ryu won't suffer that since they dont do that, but we'll see i guess but yea i do agree that yuzu is basically dead and most likely forever
@[email protected] aren't shortcuts in arc customizable? or not yet on windows?
@[email protected] nah but that's the same checkbox, just in different states (since the shadows are inset, we can assume they are "inside" and are hidden by the yellow fill) and the different icons are literally different brand icons. but yeah that looks bad and yeah that app sucks (source: i use it regularly)
physical body is bloat
i hate javascript
@[email protected] holy shit thats cool :neocat_think_woozy: > you lose treeshaking once enabled though while this would kinda work with inspect, i also have a similar decorator that does a bit more and shouldn't be disabled like this, so losing treeshaking is what i really want to avoid :c but thats an interesting approach anyway, didnt know rollup could do that, ty :з
something like this does work, but it will be a pain to rewrite everything like this :neocat_woozy: i wonder if i can do this with some regex magic at build time and i also remember that webstorm highlights classes differently from `const`s, but that should not be an issue if i keep them as classes in `.d.ts` and only patch the `.js` files
oh fuck me rollup seems to be unable to treeshake these (not even with pure annotations, since it would remove the call altogether) and it doesn't seem to support ts/es decorators either 😭
i was told that its likely because these servers only allow non-steam game (wtf) and going to that server's website it really looks like it i wonder how much malware will i get :blobcatgooglytrash:
cs1.6 is so dead literally every single server in the browser - reports fake online - is listed **a lot of** times under different names/ips - is filled with fake players and the only remaining semi-alive servers are only listed on shady websites and ban you as soon as you try joining for "fake client" :neocat_woozy:
holy shit this is so cool and apparently this is also already implemented in bun... so cool...... https://parceljs.org/blog/v2-12-0/
friendship ended with brew
@[email protected] in ~~rust~~ c compiled to wasm, for best performance! :blobcatgooglytrash:
CW: hot take-ish
@[email protected] just because you are *used to* something doesn't mean that it's good. people don't dislike good ui/ux, people dislike change. that's basically what we've seen with the new mobile discord layout, which got reverted because people got mad. it was, like, the first time their mobile app became somewhat usable, yet because the vocal minority is so opposed to any changes - is why we can't have shit in this society 😫 that's (imo) also the reason why most tech giants a/b test their new features/changes. slowly rolling stuff out allows them to *objectively* see if that change is useful to the users and improves their experience

RE: https://tonsky.me/blog/js-bloat/ "js bloat" does not exist can we please stop shitting on web in particular and notice that native apps are also huge and transmit a lot of stuff over the network yet somehow we are ok with 200+mb mobile apps but not 10mb web apps :neocat_woozy:
@[email protected] theres one issue with your example on likes - almost nobody implements them in c2s :neocat_woozy: https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/likes-on-federated-posts/245
@[email protected] ive read through their "why jsr" page and still don't get it :neocat_woozy:
@[email protected] oh, you're using something existing. i wanted to suggest just giving up on html-native elements (they arguably suck) and just make your own list idk then, maybe just something like `::before` with a `background: url(...)`? :D
@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] while one *can* do some cursed shit (like pfp decorations and widget/deck hell), from the ui/ux standpoint misskey is definitely superior to most fedi fes (esp if you remove the useless widgets and only keep the notifs on side). tbh there not being an actual usable fe (and bad-looking = unusable for me) was one of the primary barriers to using fedi more. mastodon fes (including the official one) were all too convoluted and had bad ux, and akkoma fe just looks too bad and misses a few important features. and i doubt im the only one, ui/ux side is too often overlooked 🥲 but maybe that's just a profdeformation
@[email protected] there is a way to do these things called `<img class="list-mark" src="...">` alternatively you could just build a custom font
dx (fluent api via chained methods) vs bundle size (tree-shaking via esm imports) is honestly such a hard choice i wish i didn't have to make. if only js had extension methods..... 😭
@[email protected] tbh formatting in ap is so weird. like, who would have thought that requiring all software to re-implement parsers is stupid and won't ever be portable :neocat_woozy:
oh my fucking god please no not ai in fucking devtools https://x.com/leopeva64/status/1760562039716524370
CW: re: retrospring moderation stuff
@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] had a service that required some moderation at one point. maybe its just me, but it just felt so weird that some people would willingly spend *their* time working through reports and stuff for free (i did pay them from donations at some point, but it was a miserable amount). the least i could do for them was to provide a decent ui/ux, yet my skills at that time kinda sucked, so the experience was far from the best, which even further raised the question why would anyone do that for free. especially considering i had nowhere near that large of a userbase, peaking at 1k mau yet even despite all that, i had 2 people consistently doing stuff and 2-3 more doing stuff occasionally. and some of the most valuable ui/ux feedback originated from them. maybe some people are just built different 🙃
CW: geopol
@[email protected] @[email protected] tbf it *is* true that the west hates russians 🙃
@[email protected] @[email protected] > it doesn't do virtual scrolling what the fuck why
@[email protected] try using an actual browser and not firefox/safari (chrome opens them in a new tab in that case)
oh nyooooo why did they standardize these this way i really loved this pattern, but it won't work in bun apparently :c and i suppose it's to-be-discouraged because of the way field initializers got standardized in tc39 in typescript they have a `useDefineForClassFields` compiler flag that toggles emitting es2022-style initializers, but bun doesn't seem to, and always transpiles to es2022 😭
